Our rundown of Movers & Shakers for August 2023
Kurt Barwis: The American Hospital Association (AHA) elected the president and CEO of Connecticut-based Bristol Health to its board of trustees for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.
Steve Behm: Real Chemistry, which provides artificial intelligence (AI)-driven insights and communications for the healthcare industry, named the former Edelman executive as its practice leader for crisis communications and corporate reputation.
Harriet Booker: Unified Women’s Healthcare announced Booker’s appointment to president of Unified OBGYN, its physician practice management company.
Jeri Brown: Cancer navigation startup Outcomes4Me announced the former Dotdash Meredith senior director of brand partnerships as its first VP of strategic accounts.
Norvell Coots: The AHA elected the president and CEO of Holy Cross Health and the Maryland Region of Trinity Health to its board of trustees for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.
Steven Diaz: The AHA elected the chief medical officer of MaineGeneral Health to its board of trustees for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.
Cathy Donohue: AI tech platform CodaMetrix announced Donohue’s appointment to SVP of product. She previously worked as VP of product management at Commure, a healthtech company.
Tania Elliott: The chief medical officer of virtual care at Ascension was named chief medical officer of healthtech company Nectar Life Sciences.
Philip Fleischman: Norwest Venture Partners named Fleischman VP of its healthcare team, a position in which he will focus on growth equity and investments. He previously worked for Credit Suisse and TA Associates.
Stephen Fromm: The former co-founder and CFO of Thriveprotect took over as president of Family First, a tech-powered caregiving support benefit.
John Gallina: The Elevance Health EVP and CFO is set to retire later this year. He plans to serve as a special advisor to the CEO following his retirement.
Bill Gassen: The president and CEO of South Dakota-based Sanford Health has filled an unexpired term on the AHA’s board of trustees.
Shyam Joshi: Nectar Life Sciences named Joshi, its former chief medical officer, the company’s first chief scientific officer.
Mark Kaye: Elevance Health announced Moody’s Corporation CFO as its next EVP and CFO. He will serve as CFO designate from September 6 to November 1 before fully taking over the role.

Jeanne Marrazzo: The director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s infectious disease division will take over as director of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) sometime this fall. Hugh Auchincloss Jr. has been serving as acting director of NIAID since former director Anthony Fauci stepped down in December 2022.
Michael Mayo: The AHA elected the president and CEO of Florida-based Baptist Health to its board of trustees for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.
Tim McManus: The AHA elected the national group president for Tennessee-based HCA Healthcare to its board of trustees for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.
Ivelesse Mendez-Justiniano: NYC Health + Hospitals announced the promotion of its chief learning officer and interim chief of diversity and inclusion to VP and chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer.
Samyukta Mullangi: Value-based cancer care platform Thyme Care named the Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer fellow its medical oncology director. Mullangi also joined the clinical staff at Tennessee Oncology.
Deepa Rastogi: The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) announced the pediatric pulmonologist as the new chief of its pediatric respiratory and sleep medicine division.
Shantanu Rastogi: CHAM and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine recruited Rastogi to serve as the new chief of its neonatology division.
Brian Tjugum: AI-powered healthtech company Real Chemistry named the communications veteran as its global practice leader for social impact.
Robert Trestman: The AHA elected the professor and chair of psychiatry and behavioral medicine at Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine to its board of trustees for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.
Jeanniey Walden: Rite Aid named the former DailyPay chief innovation and marketing officer as its new SVP and chief marketing officer. Walden has held the position on an interim basis since March 2023.
Susan Weaver: Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center (known as ERC Pathlight) named the former Kepro executive as its new CEO.
David Weinreich: The former Regeneron executive joined healthcare incubator Foresite Labs as an operating partner. Weinreich is now also a senior advisor for Foresite Capital, an investment firm.
Matt Wille: The AHA elected the president and CEO of Michigan-based Munson Medical Center to its board of trustees for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2024.
