If the free shipping and all five seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel weren’t enough to entice consumers to sign up for Prime, Amazon on Wednesday announced another new membership benefit to sweeten the deal: low-cost access to healthcare through One Medical.
Prime members who sign up for the benefit—for a discounted rate of $9 per month or $99 for an annual plan (in addition to the $139 per year cost for their Prime membership)—can get “24/7 on-demand virtual care.” They can also schedule visits and drop in for lab services if they live near a One Medical location. The membership doesn’t include office visits and scheduled remote visits, but can be billed to most insurers or paid out of pocket.
Members can add up to five additional people to their One Medical membership for $6 per person each month (or $66 annually). Without the new Prime benefit, the annual membership fee for One Medical is typically $199 per person.
Neil Lindsay, SVP of Amazon Health Services, said in a statement that the tech giant added One Medical to Prime to make it “dramatically easier” for members “to get and stay healthy.”
Amazon Prime VP Jamil Ghani called the benefit “the latest example of how we’re making it easier for Prime members to take care of their health.”
Prime members can already access benefits from Amazon Pharmacy, including RxPass—which allows members to get certain eligible medications for a flat monthly fee of $5—and Prime Rx, which offers prescription drug savings for members not using insurance.
In October, Amazon announced a prescription drug drone delivery service in Texas.
