Sound the alarm! US News & World Report has released its list of the 20 best hospitals in the country for providing the highest-quality care.

US News reviewed data for 5,000 hospitals in over 30 medical and surgical services for its 2024–2025 list. It evaluated performance on measures like mortality rates and preventable complications using data from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Twenty hospitals around the country were named on the Honor Roll—US News’s designation for the top-ranking hospitals in the country. It also recognized the top five hospitals in 15 speciality treatment areas, including cancer and cardiology.

In alphabetical order, the hospitals are:

  • Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston
  • Cedars–Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles
  • Cleveland Clinic
  • Duke University Hospital, Durham, North Carolina
  • Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania–Penn Presbyterian, Philadelphia
  • Houston Methodist Hospital
  • Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore
  • Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston
  • Mayo Clinic–Arizona, Phoenix
  • Mayo Clinic–Rochester, Minnesota
  • Mount Sinai Hospital, New York
  • New York–Presbyterian Hospital–Columbia and Cornell
  • New York University Langone Hospitals, New York
  • North Shore University Hospital at Northwell Health, Manhasset, New York
  • Northwestern Medicine–Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago
  • Rush University Medical Center, Chicago
  • Stanford Health Care–Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto, California
  • UC San Diego Health–La Jolla and Hillcrest hospitals
  • UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles
  • UCSF Health–UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco

US News also named the best hospitals for different specialties, using sources like the American Hospital Association’s annual survey, the National Cancer Institute’s list of designated cancer centers, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s record of nurse magnet hospitals, as well as “expert opinion surveys of board-certified physicians.”

Here are a few examples of featured hospitals:

  • University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston was named the best cancer hospital.
  • Cleveland Clinic was named best for cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery.
  • Mayo Clinic–Rochester in Minnesota was named best for diabetes and endocrinology.

“Choosing the right hospital to match your needs shouldn’t be a guessing game,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at US News said in a press release on July 16. “The 2024–2025 edition of Best Hospitals provides patients and their families clear, data-driven insights on hospital performance and empowers Americans to choose the facility best suited to their specific healthcare needs.”

The Best Hospitals list follows the June publication of US News’s inaugural Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access, a list of 98 hospitals named for quality care for patients from historically underserved communities.
