Each month, we highlight some of the major job changes in the healthcare sector, from small startups bringing in new leadership to big orgs trading seasoned execs.
Quite a few last-minute career changeups and announcements were squeezed into the final month of 2024. So here’s a noncomprehensive roundup to get you caught up.

Lucille Accetta: CVS Health appointed Accetta as its chief pharmacy officer, effective December 3. In addition to this new duty, she will continue in her current role as SVP of specialty pharmacy operations, which she has held since May 2022.
Dietmar Berger: Foster City, California-based Gilead Sciences announced December 12 that Berger would replace Merdad Parsey as the biopharmaceutical company’s chief medical officer, effective January 2. He joins from Sanofi, where he served as chief medical officer and global head of development.
Emily Brower: The National Association of Accountable Care Organizations announced that Brower is leaving Michigan-based nonprofit Trinity Health to become its next president and CEO, effective February 2025. She is replacing co-founder Clif Gaus, who is retiring.
Karen Knudsen: Liquid biopsy company Exai Bio announced on December 5 that the former CEO of the American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network had been appointed to its board of directors.
Japan Mehta: Louisville, Kentucky-based Humana named Mehta as chief information officer in a December 20 press release. The release said Mehta—currently serving as the chief data officer of Citi—is set to begin sometime in Q1 2025. He will replace current chief information officer Sam Deshpande.
Mouneer Odeh: Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Health System announced its first chief data and artificial intelligence officer on December 20. His appointment follows more than four years as VP of analytics at Virginia-based Inova Health System.
Len Shankman: CVS Health announced on December 3 that Shankman—who has been at the company since 2002—will now serve as president of its pharmacy and consumer wellness division. He was most recently the division’s SVP and chief financial officer (CFO).
Shoshana Shendelman: Biopharmaceutical company Applied Therapeutics announced on December 20 that Shendelman, its founder, had stepped down as chair and CFO, effective immediately. John Johnson was named executive chairman and Les Funtleyder, the company’s CFO, is now interim CEO.
Ryan Smith: Utah-based Intermountain Health announced Smith as its next chief digital and information officer on December 3.
Denice Torres: ByHeart, a New York-based infant nutrition company, announced on December 5 that Torres would join its board of directors. Torres has previously held leadership positions at Eli Lilly and Company and Johnson & Johnson.
